Overview• To monitor and manage all Underground Mining SHERQ related issues within the IMS and legal framework.
• Ensure that all SHERQ issues are addressed and in compliance with all applicable legal and “other” requirements.
Qualifications• Degree / Diploma in SHERQ Management / SAMTRAC
• Ms Office ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Email
Experience• 3 years’ experience in auditing of SHERQ management systems using recognised auditing techniques.
• Proven track record in an operational / explosives or mining environment.
• Innovative thinking of better ways to improve.
• Valid driver licence (code 8)


Duties• Perform routine safety, health, environmental and quality inspections.
• Ensure that Notice boards are correct / up to date and communicated to employees.
• Identify and report on any non-conformances.
• Report and follow up any unusual situation or condition.
• Identify and eliminate/minimise exposure to potential hazards.
• Audit work areas and ensure house-keeping practises are implemented and adhered to.
• Responsible to report, verify and co-ordinate the site statistical information.
• Responsible for monitoring and trend analysis of identified key performance areas.
• Ensures that all the requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act, OHS Act, and statutory requirements are met on sites.
• Ensures that staff working at the sites meet all the statutory, legal and BME SHERQ requirements.
• Ensures that inspections are carried out so that risks are identified and that the necessary risk management is conducted.
• Ensures that the necessary documentation and administration of health and safety matters are up to date.
• Ensures that prescribed audits are conducted and that the recommendations are acted upon.
• Ensures that the necessary incident investigation takes place.
• Ensures that required staff training takes place.
• Accurate record keeping.
• Responsible to maintain and update electronic information systems.
• Sign off on all Register files – Monthly.
• Ensure that regulatory processes and process changes are followed and updated and recorded.
• Ensures adherence to SHERQ requirements.
• Cultivates a quality management culture on site.
• Cultivates a strong customer service orientation.
• Oversees the quality of products in line with statutory and company standards.
• Cultivates a culture among staff of neatness, cleanliness, and orderliness in line with SHERQ requirements.
• Ensures that first-line supervision conduct regular inspections of sites, vehicles and equipment and that they ensure that standards are maintained.
• Monitor SHERQ Standards and Procedures.
• Monitor safe usage of PPE.
• Manage unsafe acts and conditions.
• Conduct internal site SHERQ audits.
• Action deviations identified and communicate for the purpose of corrective action.
• Follow up on corrective action and update action sheet accordingly.
• SHERQ propaganda.
• Safety talks.
• Notice Boards kept up to date.
• Perform Standby duties if necessary.
• Assist and provide full support to the Site Management with all SHERQ related problems.
• Monitor Task Risk Assessments.
• Facilitate evaluation of the tasks identified for the purpose of determining critical tasks.
• Facilitate compilation and compliance to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
• All new procedures to be discussed with the Area Manager for document control
• Action and communicate Risk Control Measures.
• Follow up on the implementation of the Risk Control Measures and update action sheet accordingly.
• Facilitate Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment process.
• Communicate with the Area Manager with regards to all amendments and changes to processes and risk issues.
• Action and communicate Risk Control Measures.
• Follow up on the implementation of the Risk Control Measures and update action sheet accordingly.
• Compile a monthly report which includes the following information:
• Summary of month activities.
• Number of incidents reported and per category.
• Classification of incidents reported.
• Classification of injuries.
• Number of employees per site.
• Number of contractors per site.
• Licensing & DGP.
• Total accidents with ICAM management plans.
• Monthly Medical surveillance compliance.
• Monthly site specific and client induction compliance.
• Occupational Health and Hygiene performance.
• Monthly ISO Audit compliance per site.
• Weekly Management compliance per site.
• KPI reports.
• Monitor incident reporting.
• Facilitate all category A Incidents.
• Facilitate all ICAM processes.
• Safety Alerts will be distributed to the Area Manager within 6 hours of the time of the incident.
• Monitor fire risk inspections on equipment.
• Perform investigations.
• Monitor defects reported on equipment.
• Monitor and give proper feedback to the Area Manager corrective actions.
• Continually update the Emergency plan / procedure.
• Facilitate and Organise Mock emergencies and Emergency drills.
• Monitor SHE Reps visual inspection per week in areas of responsibilities.
• Monitor all Engineering inspections and deviations recorded.
• Monitor deviations and give timely feedback to management.
• Monitor follow up on implementation of corrective / preventive action.
• Monitor quality control on the internal communication files.
• Monitor all safety related training on all Sites.
• Monitor SHE Representatives monthly inspections for the purpose of practical training.
