POSITION: PROFESSIONAL NURSE (P8)
PURPOSES OF THE POST
The main purpose of this post is to facilitate the implementation of the Unisa Policy: HIV and
AIDS Policy and related programmes, to assist in further development and/or implementation of
the institutional Health & Wellness Programme, as well as to provide Primary Health Care
Services within the incumbent’s scope of professional training and relevant professional
Grade 12/matric plus a three-year degree in Nursing or National Diploma in Nursing
Professional Nursing Qualification.
At least five (4) years working experience in a clinical setting which includes two years’
working experience in a HIV Testing Services (HTS) Counselling environment.
License to Dispense Medicines in keeping with Medicines and Related Substances Act,
Number 101 of 1965 as amended.
Understanding of or insight into the Higher Education &Training Health, Wellness and
Development Programme (HEAIDS).

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS
Insight into the National Strategic Plan on HIV, STI’s & TB 2017-2022.
Practical application of HIV Testing Services (HTS) algorithms and protocols.
Knowledge and clinical administration of recent HIV diagnostic tests as well as
interpretation of testing results.
Ability to provide Primary Health Care (PHC) services including, among others,
assessment, diagnosis, interpretation of medical screening results as well as treatment
and/or monitoring of clinical conditions.
Insight into the National Department of Health’s Norms for Primary Health Care facilities
Knowledge of and ability to provide required care towards Management of Medical

HIV Testing Services (HTS):
Provide HIV Testing Services (HTS) in keeping with current protocols.
Actively participate in the institutionalisation of identified HTS Campaigns and
interventions and reporting on these in keeping with relevant reporting formats.
Maintain a database of HTS utilisation and generate daily, weekly and monthly reports in
accordance with HTS Protocols of the National Department of Health and other related
Adhere to appropriate Client Referral System of the Section: HIV/AIDS, and keep
records of formal referral of clients to and from appropriate healthcare services/facilities.
Keep abreast of latest developments in the professional field of HTS for personal and
professional development purposes.
Primary Health Care Services:
Provide Primary Health Care (PHC) services including examining, diagnosing and
treating patients as well as assisting with coordination of general Health & Wellness
interventions, and reporting accordingly.
Maintain a data base of PHC Services Utilisation and generate daily, weekly and
monthly reports in accordance with International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10)
Codes, Protocols of the National Department of Health and other related regulatory
bodies as well as identified institutional data requirements.
Maintain a sound Client Referral System and keep records of formal referral of clients to
and from appropriate healthcare services/facilities.
Manage medical emergencies, including injuries on duty, in cooperation with other
internal and external medical emergency services.
Keep up with Primary Health Care Quality Assurance Framework and ensure
Carry out requisite administrative tasks towards ensuring that strategic and operational
functions, projects and interventions of the Section and Directorate are carried out
Ensure compliance with institutional procurement policies in sourcing services of
independent professional service providers and other services as may be required.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

Salary : Remuneration is commensurate with the
seniority of the position
